Somali parliament speaker slates Baidoa attack

Speaker of Federal parliament Mohamed Sheikh Osman  has condemned terrorist attack that killed more than 25 people mostly civilians by Al-Shabaab on a restaurant in Baidoa town.

Osman said in a statement that two explosions took place in a busy street in Baidoa town, in the south-central Bay region of Somalia.

The speaker has offered his heartfelt condolences to the South West State, the people of Somalia and in particular the families of those who lost their loved ones in the twin bomb blasts in Baidoa, the capital of Bay region.

“I send my condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives in this terrible attack. I also pray for a quick recovery for those who were wounded,” he said.

Osman called on residents to work hand in hand with the security forces.

Al-Shabaab’ claimed responsibility for the attack, saying

Al-Shabaab has said it carried out Sunday’s attack in Somalia’s southern city of Baidoa that killed at least 30 people.

A car bomb exploded outside a restaurant as people were watching the English Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal, according to witnesses.

In a second explosion, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a busy junction.
