Somali political associations submit case against Somali premier

22 leaders of Somali political associations have submitted case against Prime minister Omar Abdirashid to chairman of Supreme Court Aided Ilka Hanaf, accusing him of blocking the endorsement of bill for political parties.

Last year federal Parliament speaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman (Jawari) announced a deadline set for the submission of Political Parties bill.

“It [the government] has 30 days to submit the Political Parties Bill after civil society engagement,” he noted.

But Political Parties bill is yet waiting to be endorsed amid the country is heading 2016 elections.

Despite the suspension of popular elections by 2016, Somalia’s Federal Government has allegedly been dragging its feet on the drafting of clauses for the vital legislation.
