Somalia’s Intelligence and Security Forces (NISA) on Monday arrested wanted Al-Shabaab commander in a security operation in the capital city, Mogadishu.

The spokesman of Mogadishu’s local government, Abdifatah Halane, said Hassan Mohamed Siyad (Fanah) , a senior Al-Shabaab commander was the main target of the security forces.

“Security forces raided the house of the man in the district of Kahda on Sunday night when they received the tips off from the residents about this commander” said Halane.

He added that the wanted al-Shabaab commander surrendered to the security forces without resistance.

He said the Somali and AU troops will intensify the war against Al-Shabaab militants to undermine their capacity to launch attacks against civilians in the Horn of Africa state.

Fanah has been wanted by Somali government since last year when the government put $2000 bounty on him.

On its twitter account, NISA said its forces apprehended Al-Shabaab commander in Kahda district.
