Somalia and Kenya Discuss to ease visa restriction

A delegation from Kenyan parliament’s select committees on defense and foreign affairs has been meeting with their Somalia counterparts in Mogadishu to discuss better collaborations between the two states.

The meeting also attended by Somalia ambassador to Kenya Gamal Mohamed and Kenyan ambassador to Somalia General Lucas Kyonze Tumbo also focuses on issues of immigration; this includes the thorny issue of visa restrictions by Kenyan government on Somali passport holders who frequently travel to Nairobi for multiple purposes.

The 9 member delegation has arrived today and has also met with the Somalia parliament speaker Prof. Mohamed Osman Jawari.

Kenyan MP of Somali ethnicity Hon Ilyas Barre Shil said that the two countries had always enjoyed good diplomatic relationship despite upheavals and difficulties in certain times.

Somalia MP Aweys Abdullahi Ibrahim said that the meeting was fruitful and a delegation from Somalia parliament would reciprocate the visit.

The two governments have been trying to forge common understanding in recent months and has both swapped envoys.
