Somalia attends 22nd Africa Oil Week in South Africa

Somali federal government is attending the Africa Oil Week in Cape Town, South Africa which expected to conclude today.

Africa Oil Week is a yearly conference that brings together governments, leading companies and key players in the petroleum industry.

Somali minister for petroleum and mineral resources, Mohamed Mukhatar Ibrahinm together with the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources, Abdikadir Adan Noor and other senior Ministry officials are representing Somalia at the conference.

Speaking at the conference the minister gave an in-depth presentation about the current situation and the available opportunities.

He also briefed the audience on the recent agreement signed by the FGS and Federal Member States (FMS) in regards to petroleum and mineral resources.

He also underlined to the government’s commitment to limiting dependency on foreign aid and instead using our natural resources to drive socio-economic development.

On the Sidelines of Conference, The Minister met with different organizations and companies such as the World Bank, Exxon Mobil, Shell and Spectrum. They discussed issues critical to the development of Somalia’s petroleum sector, as well as, identified further ways to improve our co-operation.

The delegation also met with the Somali Community in Cape Town and briefed them about the progress that has been made in Somalia.
