Somalia: Top leaders celebrate Eid Al-Adha with Muslims in Mogadishu

Muslims in Mogadishu celebrated Eid Al-adha on Saturday, one of Islam’s biggest celebrations, marking the end of the yearly pilgrimage.

The top leaders of Somalia including the speaker of federal Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari, the Prime minister of federal government Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed, Ministers and members of federal parliament prayed with Muslims at Isbaheysiga mosque in Mogadishu.

The speaker of the federal parliament Mohamed Sheikh Osman speaking to crowds in the mosque after the prayer sent his heartfelt congratulations to Muslim on the occasion Eid Al-Adha. The speaker urged the Muslim people to unite, persevere and support the federal government’s efforts to maintain security and restore law and order.

Similar celebrations has taken place in all the regions of the country, Puntland president Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas sent congratulations to Somali people all over the country especially Puntland people and called the residents to collaborate with the security forces in maintaining security.

The holiday is celebrated with prayers, small gifts for children and distribution of meat to the poor. Some Muslims will perform a ritual sacrifice of a goat or sheep.
