Somalia’s Puntland court sentences five Al-Shabaab militants to death

Somalia’s Puntland military court in Bossaso on Saturday sentenced to death five Al-Shabaab militants defendant accused for being members of Al-Shabaab suicide squad.

The military court, said the court found the suspects guilty and given them death penalty.

“The court sentenced five men to death penalty, The court found these defendants guilty of being involved in the terrorism and they confessed to it,” said the court.

The five  men  are, Ibrahim Mohamed Anshur (20), Abbas Ibrahim Adan  (26), Dhaqane Adan Abdi (25), Adan Noor Adan (27) and Noor Abdi Adan (27),

The judge stated that the convicted men can still take an appeal if they are not satisfied with the verdict.

Security forces of Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland have arrested these men carrying explosives in the city of Bosaso, the commercial hub of the region late last month.

In the past years, Bosaso city witnessed many terrorist attacks by militants who targeted government officials.

Somalia’s Puntland State administration is fighting Al-Shabaab and pro-IS militants in Bari region north of Somalia. 

The European Union, the United Nations and human rights campaigners have all urged Somalia authorities to reinstate the moratorium.
