Somaliland accuses Puntland government of encroaching Somaliland territory

Storyline:National News

The breakaway Somaliland has accused the semi-autonomous regional state of Puntland of encroaching on Somaliland’s territory.

Somaliland information minister, Osman Sahardid Adani said Defence Forces have repulsed Puntland’s incursion which he said to have taken place in the last 48 hours.

“Somaliland forces will do everything in its power to protect the people and the territorial integrity of Somaliland” said Adadani.

Escalating tensions have heightened fears that Puntland and Somaliland have deployed soldiers gathered from their borders according to sources,

The minister said  that the Somaliland Defence Forces can inflict substantial damage to the meagre militia led by the governor of Nugaal.

“It is time to remind the leadership and the people of Puntland, that all political issues between the two neighbours can be resolved amicably without loss of life or property. Somaliland is adamant that the residents in that area will continue to enjoy peace and development. These residents will not be harassed by a militia motivated by land grab” noted Adani.

He added “But, I would like remind the people and leadership of Puntland, Somaliland will not shirk from defending its citizens and their property. This is not Gaalkacyo. This is Somaliland territory and if these kind of unwarranted aggression does not cease or desist, then the Somaliland Defence Forces will not be responsible for the inevitable conclusion to this matter.”

No comment could be reached from Puntland government on the allegations.

Since the two authorities have their forces clashed on numerous occasions that now war is a possible to erupt between Puntland, autonomous region of Somalia and Somaliland.
