Somaliland President reshuffles cabinet barely two days after mass resignation

In a presidential decree carrying the protocol number JSL/M/XERM/249-3631/102015, the president of the breakaway Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Silaanyo has appointed several posts including Ministers, State Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Director Generals in a bid to fill the chinks left behind by more than a dozen key resignations in the Somaliland Cabinet of Ministers.

At one level, the changes saw some ministers being replaced while others took new roles.

In the latest reshuffle, the president appointed new ministers, state ministers, director general and the central bank’s governor. He also fired three other senior officials in his government.

The president appointed the following ministers

Ministers

Abdullahi Farah Maydhane Minister for Youth, sports and culture of republic of Somaliland.Abdullahi Ibrahim Habane aka Abdullahi Dhere, minister for education and higher education.

State ministers

Abdi Dahir Amoud, state minister for Labor and social affairs.

Abdirashid Hussein Abdille alias Arab, state minister for Eastern regions.

Abdisalaan Mohamed Hassan, State minister for Environment and Rural development.

Mohamed Farah Duaale, state minister for finance.

Mahdi Osman Abdullahi, state minister for water.

Abdirahman Ahmed Ismail, State Ministry for Energy and Minerals.

Abdirahman Mohamud Ali, State minister for livestock.

Deputy Minister

Mohamed Muse Diriye, Deputy Minister for Interior.

Rashiid Ismael Kaahin, deputy Minister for Youth, sports and culture.

Kaysar Abdullahi Mohamed, Deputy Minister for commerce

Yussuf Osman Garas, deputy minister for Education.

Osman Ahmed Jama’a, deputy minister justice and judicial affairs.

Abdi Mohamed Hiired, Deputy Minister Public works.

Boos Mire Mohamed, Deputy Minister for defense.

Jama’a Abdullahi Biin, Deputy Minister for interior.

Director General

Abdifattah Saeed Ahmed Guleed, Director General for interior ministry.

Farhaan Adan Haybe, Director General for ministry of industry.

Presidential advisor

Abdisamad Omar Maal, presidential advisor on International and Local agencies.

Abdinasir Garaad Abshir, presidential advisor on Eastern regions.

The presidential decree is seen the most touching as general elections draw closer.

Somaliland, a breakaway region in northern Somalia has escaped Somalia’s two decades civil war. Despite lacking an international recognition, Somaliland considers itself as an independent state after it declared a unilateral independence from the rest of Somalia in 1991, employing its own government and army.
