Storyline:National News

Somaliland will hold its presidential election on 13th November 2017 following months of delays, its electoral commission said Tuesday.

The National Electoral Commission also said it had concluded the registration of voters which amounted to 873,331.

The region’s parliament announced early this month it had settled for November 13 pushing the exercise a further one month from the earlier set date.

Initially the presidential elections which have been postponed for two years now were slated for March 28 but Parliament and President Ahmed Silanyo led government announced a six months delay over what it termed as need to address the ongoing drought.

The International Community this month expressed disaffection calling on Somaliland to review the dates and ‘prepare for the presidential elections to take place in the first half of 2017 and conduct the local elections on time in 2017’.

The electoral body said it will start issuing ballot papers on April 29.
