Waddani’s Irro said Saturday his party had resolved differences with SLNEC

Waddani Party presidential candidate Abdirahman Irro said Saturday he had settled differences with the electoral body two days after he announced he was cutting links following allegations of rigging and use of ballot papers.

Addressing the media jointly with the chairperson of Somaliland National Electoral Commission Abdikadir Iman Warsame, Irro said the commission had assured him the ballot papers were genuine.

Commissioner Warsame assured the papers Wadani party found were genuine which belonged to the Somaliland electoral commission and not fake documents that were used for voting.

“We proclaim today that chairperson Abdirahman and I had a two days meeting and it concluded with an atmosphere of fraternity and sincerely in good friendship of agreement on the articles we discussed.”

Warsame added they also resolved the issue of alleged fake ballot papers. “We listened to his concerns over voting papers in Berbera. We also agreed together on the vote counting in Marodi Jeeh region. This is what we inform the public.”

Irro stated the working relationship of his party had with the commission has been restored after ascertaining the documents in their possession to be authentic.

“We talked with the commission for the two days and we agreed on both sides to listen to our complaints regarding the election especially in Marodi Jeh region and they will respond to them. They proved the ballot papers were genuine,” said Irro. “I am informing my supporters that the  commission will consider all my requests whether in Marodi Jeh region or the whole Somaliland.”

Irro has earlier accused the Somaliland National Electoral Commission (SNEC) over alleged use of fake ballot papers during the just concluded poll said Saturday prompting his party to sever ties with the election entity.

The announcement of Wadani party led to public protest to break out in a number of areas in Somaliland including the capital Hargeisa and Burao in Togdheer region where some of his supporters had been killed and others injured when police open fire on them.
