Southwest state officials take part in demo in support of the court’s verdict on minister Siraji’s killer

Large public demonstration wast held today in Baidoa town, Southwest state among them state official in full support of the death penalty imposed by a military court on the soldier who killed federal Minister for Public Works and Reconstruction Abass Abdullahi Sheikh Siraji demanding his fate to be decided only by a court of Law.

Among the demonstrators were some of the state high ranking state officials including local ministers and MPs from Southwest state.

Speaking in the public event, southwest state minister for women and human rights Nadifo Amey Abdullahi stressed on the need to apply justice on the Somali nation.

“People in Southwest state need justice and a national application of justice must be exercised across the country” said the minister. Majority of the state law makers who took part in demonstration were in support of the military court’s verdict.

Among the demonstrators was the mother of the deceased minister Siraj who appealed to the federal president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo that the killer of her son must face justice adding that she raised him up in a struggling way.

“I need the killer of my son to face only the law.  I brought him up through difficult times. I appeal to president Farmaajo to allow the law to take its course” said the distressed mother.

It was on 3rd May when the murder of late minister Siraji took place near the Presidential area killed by a friendly fire from the security guards of the National Auditor General Noor Jimale Farah who was dismissed from his position as a result of the fatal attack.

In late June 2017, the High Court of the Somali Armed Forces passed a verdict of death sentence to Private Ahmed Abdullahi Aidid of the Somali Armed Forces while his co-accuser Sergeant Osman Salad Bare has been acquitted of the charges.

The verdict lies in the presidential office and only awaits signature endorsement of the president to be implemented.
