Regional state ministers killed in road crash in central Somalia

Two Galmudug state ministers and a traditional elder died on Saturday evening in a road crash in central Somalia.

Those who killed in the crash near Saddeh-higle Village were identified as Galmudug state ministers for works and finance, Aweys Ali Saeed and Abdiladiif respectively.

The traditional elder who also died in the road crash was named Abdullahi Yussuf Digsi.

The three were heading to Galkaayo town when the driver of the car they were travelling in lost control and it overturned.

The two state ministers died on the spot while the elder succumbed to his injuries hours later.

Police said they had begun investigations to establish the cause of the accident.

“We want to know why drivers are reckless. A number of accidents happening in the region have been caused by their drivers,” said police officer.

The class B9 road is the main transport artery running through many parts of Mudug region and connecting it to the rest of Somalia.

The poor road infrastructure in Somalia has remained major impediments to the marketing of agricultural livestock products.

Most sections of the country road are characterised by potholes, gullies and detours which have been the case for decades of lawlessness.
