A suicide car bombing went off late evening today in a hotel in the port city of Kismayo the capital of Jubaland state in Southern Somalia.

The blast occurred at Asasey hotel in the heart of Kismayo where legislators and local elders and lawmakers were having a meeting.

Early reports are indicating that the attackers have stormed in the hotel and still gunshots are heard inside the hotel.

It’s too early to know the exact number of casualties, but there is the possibility of a loss of a large number.

No group has still claimed the attack but the suspected Al-Qaida linked group is known for such attacks in Somalia.

Outside of Kismayo, Al-Shabab still controls parts of Jubbaland, a region in southern Somalia.

The armed Al-Shabaab group remains a major security threat, with its fighters frequently carrying out bombings in Somalia and neighbouring Kenya.
