Swan lands in Kismayo for final tour of FMS to secure poll deal

GOOBJOOG NEWS|KISMAYO: UN head in Somalia  James Swan landed in Kismayo Sunday morning for his final leg of Federal Member States tours to close in on an electoral deal with the regional state leaders.

Swan and his team were received by state deputy president Mohamud Adan before proceeding to the presidential palace where he is expected to hold talks with president Ahmed Madobe. Jubbaland, which has been at loggerheads with the Federal Government last week climbed down and announced a state elections team to oversee the election of members of parliament representing the region.

Swan’s visit is the last of the FMS having concluded tours of South West, HirShabelle, Galmudug and Puntland. The UN chief has been able to secure the commitment of Puntland Jubbaland to participate in the elections after months of grandstanding.

President Mohamed Farmaajo who held talks with representatives of the international community yesterday in Mogadishu announced a meeting with FMS leaders in Dhusamareb starting tomorrow upon which he will address a joint session of parliament on the outcome.
