Regional states of Somaliland and Khatumo in northern Somalia have moved troops to their common borders in a move sources note which could escalate into a clash as both sides trade accusations, Goobjoog News has learnt.

Khatumo state minister of livestock Mohamud Ali has told Goobjoog News his state deployed the troops after soldiers from neighbouring Somaliland crossed to its territory in what sources have said was aimed at retaking Buhoodle town under Khatumo control.

In response, Ali noted Khatumo “We deployed hundreds of our soldiers close to the area, where the Somaliland forces have stationed to prevent any aggression from the invaders,” said Ali.

“Somaliland will take full responsibility in the event of any clash,” said Ali.

Khaatumo and Somaliland have had territorial disputes over the Sool and Sanag regions in the past decade, leading to a clash between troops.

Somaliland declared its secession from Somalia in 1991.
