A military court in Mogadishu has sentenced 18 soldiers to five year jail terms after they were found guilty of creating rivalries in the force through clan allegiances.

The officers drawn from the 14th October division were Thursday condemned to five years behind bars by the court martial following accusations of sowing discord among soldiers and advancing tribal divisions in the force.

The officers were based at General Gordon Military camp in Mogadishu.
