Three die as Al-Shabaab fighters attack SNA military base

At least three fighters died and scores injured after Al-Shabab fighters attacked SNA military base located outskirt of Garbaharay town early hours of Monday morning.

Al-Shabab fighters are said to have attacked the base from different direction prompting hours of fighting.

Heavy gunfire was reported as resident near the incident started fleeing.

SNA commanders in Garbaharay told Goobjoog News that their soldiers resisted fiercely and killed three the attackers.

Local resident in the town confirmed the attack and said SNA soldiers are till at their base.

“The group engaged gun battle with government soldiers for hours before they retreated” a resident in Garbaharay town says.

This comes three days after Al-Shabab fighters set alight SNA three technical vehicles before they killed the commander of SNA soldiers in an attack  in Geriley locality.

Al-Shabab has carried out several deadly attacks on Government institutions, army camps and hotels, on Saturday the group has conducted two separate suicide car attacks in Somalia, one in Mogadishu and another at a military training base in the southern port city of Kismayu that claimed lives of more than thirty people.

AMISOM and Somali National Army have been advancing to Al-Shabab controlled areas latest being Bardhere town that used to be the largest stronghold for Al-Shabab’s top officials and its foreign jihadist fighters before they fled after heavy military assault by the Somali government forces and the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops.
