Three people have been killed in a mortar shells attack at a residential building near the airport in Mogadishu.

Wadajir District commissioner Ahmed Abdulle afrah told Goobjoog News three civilians were killed by the multiple mortal shells which landed on the building midmorning. One of the suspects in the explosions was killed by security forces while a second one was injured, the official added.

Afrah said security forces at the time of going to press are still surrounding one of the houses where the third suspect is said to be holed up in.

“We can confirm three civilians died when the mortar shells hit the area. Our security forces killed one suspect and injured another while the third one is still being pursued by our forces in a house nearby,” said Afrah.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the building as several mortar shells landed. Today’s incident adds to several cases of mortar shells reported in various parts of the city in the recent past.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
