To deal with Madobe and Kenya, Farmaajo seeking to declare Jubbaland ‘enemy territory’
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Federal Government is drafting a presidential decree to be pushed through parliament seeking to declare Jubbaland a territory under ‘foreign control’ in Farmaajo’s latest move to bring Ahmed Madobe into submission and fire one of his last shots at Kenya.
Credible sources have intimated to Goobjoog News Farmaajo is determined to make his case against Kenya which it sees as propping up Madobe and subdue his political nemesis ‘by all means necessary’.
The decree, sources said will declare Jubbaland an ‘active enemy zone’ making it not possible to hold elections in what could further heighten political temperatures in the country and complicate the path to peaceful and credible elections.
Jubbaland stood its ground Sunday calling for the withdrawal of federal troops from Gedo region failure to which no elections will take place. “Jubbaland State reiterates that no Federal Parliamentary elections can take place in a region controlled unlawfully by militia forces working on the personal whims and interests of certain individuals,” the southerly state said.
BU’ALE VISION
The push to declare Jubbaland unfit for civil elections could bring into fruition a vision mooted by Farmaajo and his former Prime Minister Hassan Khaire in 2018 to move the headquarters of Jubbaland to its legally designated headquarters-Bu’ale. The operation, sources said would involve the town’s liberation and development to allow for the state government relocated but under a different parliament and presidency.
The idea which comes as Farmaajo remains with barely two months before he faces the ballot is also seen as another of the administration’s borne against Nairobi which has had the worst of relations with Mogadishu since Farmaajo came to office in 2017.
According to Villa Somalia, Madobe’s stay in office is fully credited to Kenya without which he could be long gone. A deal with Ethiopia’s Abiy Ahmed to dethrone Madobe in 2018 came a cropper when Ethiopian troops failed to access Kismayo which was heavily guarded by Kenyan troops.
Declaring Jubbaland an ‘enemy territory’ mirrors Abiy’s relationship with Tigray region which is currently embroiled in a deadly war. The fighting there has displaced thousands and left dead many as Abiy seeks to bring the northern state under his armpits.
