Turkish, Somali nationals killed in Mogadishu-Afgooye road bombing

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU:    Two people among them a Somali and Turkish national in a suicide bomb attack along Mogadishu-Afgooye road.

Medical sources at Digfeer Hospital confirmed to Goobjoog News that four other people; three Turkish nationals and a Somali were injured. All the casualties were road construction workers.  The attack happened at Lafoole area.

The attack is the second major one targeting the road workers. A December 2019 car bomb killed about 90 people at Ex-Control area along the same road. Two Turkish engineers were killed.

The militant group Al-Shabaab has also conducted several low-key attacks in a bid to halt the construction of the road which links Mogadishu and the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions.

The road is funded by the Qatari government and constructed by a Turkish firm. The Federal Government had pledged a dedicated security team to guard the workers.

The militant group  Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
