KENYA: Suspected Al-Shabaab militants have shot dead a police officer and kidnapped two Cuban doctors who were under the watch of the police officer in a road ambush in Mandera town in Kenya’s north east.

Sources in Mandera town said the attack happened a few minutes after 9am right in the middle of the northern-Kenya town, the armed assailants in a small car first blocked the vehicle ferrying the medics to work.

According to witnesses, they then alighted and opened fire on the police officer, killing him instantly.
They then bundled the two health workers into their car and drove off in what is suspected to be an abduction.

The fate of the Cuban doctors who were in Kenya on government contract remains unknown amid fears they may have been moved across the border to Somalia.
