Two have been killed and three others sustained injuries after landmine went off near military base in Burhakaba town in Southern Somalia.

A military officer who asked anonymity told Goobjoog News that the incident was caused by landmine planted near the gate manned by Somali National Army (SNA).

“Four of our soldier who standing near the gate died and three in a landmine blast near army base, the soldiers are hospitalized at the moment” the officer, adding  the explosion extensively damaged the gate.

Burhakaba administration confirmed the incident and said the attackers were seemingly targeting the base.

The administration said no body was arrested in connection with the incident as hundreds of the residents rushed to the scene of the explosion, making hard for the officers who rushed to scene to pursue those who would have been behind the criminal act.

The security forces said they are in pursuit of those behind the attack.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the latest attack.
