Two people injured in anti-Farmaajo protests in Baidoa
Two people among them a female student were injured following demonstrations against President Mohamed Farmaajo in Baidoa amid uncertainty over an impeachment motion against the President.
Goobjoog News correspondent in the South West state capital reports protesters supporting Lower House Speaker Mohamed Mursal who hails from the region clashed with security forces leading to exchange of fire.
“The Federal police along with the 60th Unit of Somali National Army came to the arena and fired in the air to disperse the protesters but armed security teams of some politicians who were among the protesters exchanged fire with the police and military injuring to protestors,” our correspondent says. Among the injured was a female student.
The two are currently receiving treatment at a local medical facility.
According to our correspondent, police officers seized cameras of journalists covering the demonstrations as the situation calmed.
Mursal has been under pressure to halt the impeachment motion against the President but has held ground even as his deputies now declare the motion dead over claims that some MPs who signed the motion have since withdrawn their signatures.
