Two police officers killed Bossaso

Unidentified gunmen shot dead two police officers in Bossaso town of Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland state on Monday night.

Eyewitness who sought anonymity said two men armed with pistols killed the officers.

“Two men armed with pistols fired several bullets on officers. the two officers died on the spot,” said

The gunmen who attacked the officials  immediately fled the scene before the arrival of the security forces.

“We heard gunfire and we rushed to the scene, the gunmen had already escaped,” said the witness.

Police authority is carrying out investigations to identify the culprits behind the attack.

The shooting occurred less than a month after Al-Shabaab gunmen killed three senior Puntland officials in Bosasso.

The town has experienced weakening security situation in the past period, due to proliferation of Al-Shabaab fighters.

Al Shabaab regularly targets officials throughout Somalia. Its insurgency aims to drive out African Union peacekeepers, topple Somalia’s Western-backed government.
