UN: Islamic State Commits New Crimes in Mosul

Storyline:National News

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) denounced today that the Islamic State (IS) continues executing civilians and using them as human shields in Mosul when facing the offensive of the Iraqi government to recover that city.

Speaking to reporters in Geneva, the Office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani stated that new reports indicate the Jihadists are transferring hundreds of men, women and children from outlying areas of the northern city, occupied by the IS in 2014, to places where they expect heavy fighting and bombardments of the army, the Kurds and their foreign allies.

According to the spokeswoman, the Islamists mobilized on Tuesday and Wednesday, many residents in the town of Hamam al-Alil in order to bring them to Tal Afar and Mosul to avoid bombing from the US-led coalition.

Some reports indicate that some of the civilians could be moved to Syria, she warned.

According to Shamdasani, it was known that the IS ordered the villagers of Lazaghah and Arij through speakers to evict their houses or face severe punishment.
