UNSOM congratulates said abdullahi deni on election as president of puntland

A press release from the Officer-in-Charge of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) and Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Raisedon Zenenga has today congratulated Said Abdullahi Deni and Ahmed Elmi Karash on their election as President and Vice-President of Puntland, respectively, in yesterday’s balloting in the Federal Member State’s Assembly.

The Officer-in-Charge has also congratulated Puntland’s electoral commission for organizing and conducting a transparent, peaceful, free and fair electoral process.

“We look forward to working closely with the administration of President Deni in Puntland,” said Mr Zenenga.

“We also commend outgoing President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali ‘Gaas’ and his administration for overseeing a peaceful transfer of power and for establishing conditions that enabled the electoral commission to conduct a successful electoral process,” added Zenenga.

The Puntland voting election which was conducted yesterday in Garowe town Puntland’s administrative capital, where 60 members of the Puntland state were electing the president and the vice president of the state has concluded successfully.
