Four soldiers were killed this morning when Al-Shabaab attacked a military base in Rage Celle town in Middle Shabelle, officials have said.

Captain Nur Olow, a military officer told the media the militants launched a morning raid on their camp killing four soldiers before the military retaliated driving them off the camp. Olow said two Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the attack. Al-Shabab had earlier claimed to have overrun the military base.

The group has intensified its assault against Somali government, AMISOM installations as well as civilian targets since the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan.

The attack comes few days after the twin attack at Siyad hotel opposite the presidential palace and Wehliye hotel along Makka Almukkaramah Road in Mogadishu as occupants began to break the fast in the evening. At least six civilians and four militants were killed during the raid.

Al-Shabaab also claimed responsibility for the June 26 ambush at the remote AMISOM base in Lego village killing about 70 Burundian soldiers.
