US appoints career diplomat Yamamoto as Charge d’Affaires for its Somali Mission

The US State Department has appointed career diplomat Donald Yamamoto as the new Charge d’Affaires for US Mission to Somalia.

According to the UN Somalia Mission website, Yamamoto was until his appointment a senior advisor to the Director General on personnel reform.

He has over 30 years experience Foreign Service. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, 2006 to 2009 and to Djibouti, 2000-2003.

Yamamotot takes over from David H. Kaeuper who was appointed October last year.

The US is yet to appoint a substantive ambassador to Somalia.

The US Mission Somalia currently operates from Nairobi.
