Water Shortage in El Dher District, Galgadud Region

water wells in SomaliaResidents of Eldher district of Galgudud region are reporting severe water shortage in their locality after water ponds went dry.

According to Mohamud Ahmed Omar, a district official in the region, the shortage is due to the dry season.

“We are in the dry season of the year, all water wells and ponds went dry, and there are no public services in the district, the livestock are becoming week to the extent they no longer produce enough milk”

He added that there are deseases outbreaks in the district like diarrhea, calling the Somali government to act on the situation.

“We appeal to the government, aid agencies and all the wealthy people to lend helping hand to the effected community” said the official.

Several other localities in the region are reporting water shortages as people started immigrating to water sources in elsewhere in the region.
