Wealthy man turns to be poor after he misuses veterinary drug to treat livestock

 

 

 

 

 

Reports from Mudug region indicate that one of the pastoralists living in Jariiban district has at once lost a herd of at least 120 goats after he misused veterinary drugs to treat them.

Farhaan farah Abdi, councillor from Jariiban district speaking to Goobjoog Fm stated the man used veterinary drug without prescription.

“I and traditional elders have visited the man’s house to see the contaminated goats, after we met him, he told us that he bought certain medicine from veterinary pharmacy and used it to treat his animals without having clear prescription on its usage or consulting veterinarian” Mr. Said.

Mr. Farhan stated that the council of elders in the district, have agreed upon to help fundraise for the man.

Goats are very important livestock species in Somalia as they are drought tolerant and they are particularly useful in the dominant traditional livestock production system.

Somalia is a country ravaged by civil war for more than two decades which resulted death of hundreds of thousands of people, while thousands of others have fled the country. Add to those problems the widespread trade in counterfeit drugs that is considered responsible for the death and suffering of many people and using medicine without doctor’s prescription which shaded light on the word “serve yourself”.

Somali people are living in a country where the easiest way to become a businessperson, is to  install a pharmacy or a kiosk selling medicine even if the person has never been a nurse or doctor.

Expiry drugs or misuse of drugs have the capacity to adversely affect animals and human beings. They poses a great risk the consumer, they may release toxins into the body and result in instant death. Expiry drugs lack effective potency and may sometimes cause death which comes as result of toxins released to the body.
