13 Somalis held in Libyan jails arrive in Mogadishu

Another 13 Somalis who were held in Libyan prisons arrived in the country today adding to 23 those who have returned so far following the presidential order last December to evacuate them in the wake of slave trade reports in the north African country.

The 13, all young men landed at Aden Adde airport in Mogadishu after they were released from government controlled prisons in Libya. The evacuation is jointly conducted by the Somali government, IOM and the refugee agency UNHCR.

Somalis held in Libyan prisons arrive in Mogadishu

The first batch of 11 arrived February 17. Somali ambassador to the EU Dr. Ali Faqi who his leading the government team told Goobjoog News late February there were at least 350 Somalis in government prisons in Libya, majority of them (280) male.
