3 killed, 7 injured in explosion at checkpoint near Mogadishu Airport

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Spokesman of the Somali Police Force has issued a statement on today’s suicide bombing at the KM14 junction in Mogadishu.

Abdifatah Aden Hassan said a suicide bomber targeted General Garabey, an army officer, who had parked his vehicle at the checkpoint at Aden Adde International Airport.

He added that the bomber had aimed at Garabey’s car window in order to inflict maximum damage but fortunately, the vehicle was bullet-proof, saving the officer from the jaws of death.

Abdifatah also confirmed that the blast killed 3 people and injured seven others who were rushed to Madina and Digfer hospitals in Mogadishu.

The terrorist attack took place at the checkpoint which leads to the Airport in Mogadishu as Presidential Candidates were set to present their pitches for election to a joint session of the Federal Parliament inside the airport compound. 

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the blast,  saying it had targeted a convoy of federal government officials en route to the airport compound.
