Nine people nabbed in security operation in Qoryooley

Nine suspected gunmen have been arrested after security forces launched security operation to smoke Al-Shabaab fighters from the villages around Qoryooley town in Lower Shaballe region.

The town’s police commissioner Ali Mohamed Ali told Goobjoog News by phone that nine people nabbed in operation in Bulosheikh village following offs tip from the public.

“Nine people armed with nine AK47s have been arrested after operations carried out by our forces, this meant to annihilate Al-Shabaab and sympathizers from the district,” said Ali.

Ali said in separate operation they recovered weapons and engaged in gun battle with suspected Al-Shabaab during the operation in Lower Shabelle region.

“We recovered weapons and destroyed  two vehicles owned by Al-Shabaab, we are planinhto extend the operations,” noted Ali.

Al-Shabaab did not immediately comment on that.

The group has been fighting against the Somali government for years, staging frequent attacks in the country.

The joint forces have increased their operations against the militants as part of efforts to secure the ongoing elections in Somalia.
