Alshabab Captures Wanle Weyn overnight, Withdraws at the Dawn
Fighters loyal to Alshabab have taken over the strategic town of Wanle Weyn, just 90km from Mogadishu on the main road to Baidao.
Residents have told Goobjoog News that the rebels have switched off the power and addresses congregates in the mosques, warning resident against supporting government and opposing them.
The government forces that were controlling there have fled the town on hearing the news of Alshabab approach.
Alshabab has since withdrew the city at the dawn as they released they would not hold for long.
The town is just 10km from Balli Dogle former airbase where multinational peacekeeping troops and other foreign forces are stationed.
In a report carried by Foreign Policy magazine recently has quoted Somalia and American officials that USA has a secret drone base in Balli Dogle, making Alshabab military movement around the base extremely dangerously close range.
There have been drone strikes for the past years in parts of Somalia, targeting Alshabab leadership, some of them were killed.
