Agjar re-elected, first female speaker picked in Somali state elections

GOOBJOOG NEWS|JIGJIGA: Mustafa Omer Agjar has been re-elected as President of the Somali State in Ethiopia in a just-concluded exercise by the state parliament.

The regional parliament also elected Ayaan Abdi as the first female speaker while Ibrahim Hassan Ali was picked as deputy speaker.

The election of a new president comes in the midst of ongoing fighting in the Tigray region which has roped in other regional states. The Somali state joined Ahmara region in sending troops to fighting alongside federal forces in the Tigray region.
