Al-Shabaab executes Somali soldier in Baay region

Al-Shabaab has executed Somali National Army (SNA) soldier captured more than five months ago.

Abrahim Adan Qassim, 37 who was convicted of being a member of Southwest state forces iwas tied to a pole and shot dead by a firing squad in an open square in Jilib town in Middle Jubba region on Sunday afternoon.

The group confirmed the execution, which took place on Friday in Labaatan Jirow village after the man was found guilty by an Al-Shabaab court in Baay region.

“The court ruled on his case of being a soldier of a government led infidels and the man was executed publicly in L according to the Sharia this (Friday) Mohamed,” the group’s judge at the execution field.

Sources said Omar was abducted by Al-Shabaab fighters from a village near Baidoa town in November last year.

Al Shabaab has been fighting for years to drive out African Union peacekeepers, topple the central government and impose its own harsh interpretation of Sharia (Islamic law) in country.
