Al-Shabaab fighter who reportedly took part in Bulo Marer attack defects

GOOBJOOG NEWS|BAKOOL: An Al-Shabaab fighter who reportedly took part in the recent attack on a Ugandan military base which claimed over 50 lives has defected to the government side.

Authorities in Hudur town in the South West state region of Bakool produced the defector, Salid Mogaw Maday Thursday morning before journalists following his defection from the militant group.

According to the state news agency SONNA, Maday joined Al-Shabaab four years ago and took part in the attack on UPDF base in Bulo Marer area of Lower Shabelle region. Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni said 54 soldiers were killed negating claims by Al-Shabaab that 137 soldiers died.

The defection of Maday comes barely a week after 10 defectors were paraded by authorities in Baidoa.
