Al-Shabaab kills at least seven soldiers in Bal’ad

GOOBJOOG NEWS|BAL’AD: At least seven soldiers were killed and several others injured following an Al-Shabaab attack at a checkpoint north of Bal’ad town, 30Kms from Mogadishu, Friday.

According to Bal’ad residents, the Al-Shabaab fighters, disguised as civilians, arrived at the checkpoint in a public vehicle and opened fire on the soldiers.

The assailants are alleged to have taken weapons of the slain soldiers before fleeing the scene of the attack.

Al-Shabaab immediately took to its website and  claimed responsibility for the attack, adding that it had killed seven soldiers and seized six firearms.

The assault came a week after Burundian troops under ATMIS vacated El- Baraf base last week following a deadly attack by the group which left dozens of Burundian soldiers dead.
