Amara, Ba’adweyne towns fall back to Al-Shabaab after forces’ pull out

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MUDUG: Al-Shabaab militants have retaken Ba’adweyn and Amara localities in Mudug region barely a week after Somali forces wrested control of the two areas in deadly battle.

Residents of the two areas told Goobjoog News the militants made a come back shortly after Galmudug regional forces vacated Thursday evening.

Somali National Army left earlier. A joint offensive by SNA and Galmudug forces led to the fall of Ba’adweyne from Al-Shabaab control earlier in the week and thereafter on Tuesday retook Amara.

SNA said 90 militants were killed in a ground offensive and U.S airstrikes in Amara. Al-Shabaab displayed armoured military vehicles on Wednesday which it said it seized from SNA.
