AMISOM Commends Nigerian Police Officers as they conclude tour of duty

A medal ceremony has today been held in honor of 24 officers of the Nigerian Police Force who have completed their one year tour duty under the African Union Mission in Somalia, Police unit.

The ceremony was attended by the AMISOM Police Commissioner Anand Pillay, AMISOM Deputy Police Commissioner Christine Alalo, AU Police Coordinator Commissioner Crowd Chirenje, AU Police Chief of Staff Rex Dundun and AMISOM Nigerian Police Contingent Commander Chief Superintendent Victor Akingbade Fakorede, among others.

Speaking at the event, the AU Police commissioner applauded the outgoing officers and also thanked the Nigerian government for having committed its police officers to serve in Somalia and contribute to the peace cause.

“They have performed incredibly well, they have upheld the AU core values during same period and some them have actually distinguished themselves. It is with pleasure that we are seeing these officers off,” said the Commissioner.

The officers that have completed their tour of duty said the experience had been fulfilling.

“It is a happy and joyful day. We are happy to have completed our tour of duty successfully, to have contributed our part in the peacekeeping effort in Somalia. We want to use this opportunity to wish the people and government of Somalia the peace that had eluded the country for many years and we pray that all the efforts AMISOM and the international community in no distance time translate into more benefits for the people of Somalia,” said Chief Superintendent Victor Akingbade Fakorede

The AMISOM Police unit provides support and training for the Somali Police Force, helping in restoring law and order in Somalia.
