The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) said Monday that it had killed at least 10 Al-Shabaab fighters in an operation in Lamu, along the Kenyan Coast.

According to KDF spokesman Paul Njuguna, the terrorists were killed after soldiers laid an Ambush at their hideout at Taksile area in Pandangua, Lamu West early Monday Morning.

“Three soldiers sustained injuries and are receiving medical care. Our soldiers are also in pursuit of the other militants who fled with injuries,” said Mr Njuguna.

The area is believed to be one of the major hideouts for the Somalia-based terror group which have launched various attacks against civilians and also attacked security officers.

Njuguna said that seven AK47 rifles were recovered during the operation and urged local residents to assist the soldiers operating in the area by sharing information that may help arrest the militants on the run.

“The locals are urged to participate in the weeding out of lurking terror elements in their midst, in order to assist in the progressive pacification of Lamu,” the army spokesman said.
