GOOBJOOG NEWS/MANDERA: About thirteen people have died in Arabia, Mandera County after a matatu they were traveling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) today morning.

According to Kenyan authorities who spoke to local media, the 14-seater matatu was carrying an unknown number of passengers to Mandera town when it ran over the IED.

Eyewitnesses at the scene say the incident took place on Monday, January 31, at around 6am.

Over the weekend, Western Embassies, including the US, had  issued a terror alert in Kenya, urging vigilance in public places and called on their nationals to monitor local media for updates.

The attack came barely two days after the Kenya National Police Service, while responding to the terror alerts,  said it had heightened security surveillance countrywide.
