At least 17 died and more than 28 wounded in Mogadishu attack

A car bomb attack at a security checkpoint on the road that leads to Mogadishu airport has claimed at least 17 lives and leftover 28 others injured.

Madina hospital received 17 dead bodies and 28 people with injuries, 17 of them have serious injuries, Mohamed Yussuf the director-general of Madina Hospital told Goobjoog News.

The blast which was heard all over the town went off at the first security checkpoint on the road that leads to Mogadishu airport and forefront of Hotel Afrik at KM4 area.

The blast also damaged nearby buildings and destroyed vehicles at the checkpoint heading to the Airport.

According to the general Deputy Police Commissioner Zakia Hussein on her twitter said the security forces have intercepted a vehicle type TOYOTA NOAH which was intending to pass the security checkpoint at KM4 has exploded killing government soldiers and civilians at the scene.

Al-Shabaab who has carried out similar attacks in the capital Mogadishu has claimed the responsibility of the attack.
