At least 3 injured in grenade attack on restaurant in B’alad district

GOOBJOOG NEWS|BAL’AD: A grenade attack on a restaurant in Bal’ad town, Middle Shabelle region has injured at least three people, confirms a police official.

The grenade exploded at an eatery situated opposite the Bal’ad District Administration Center, an area frequented by some officials and staff of the Bal’ad District Administration.

According to Balad District Police boss Colonel Hussein Moalim Abdulle, among those wounded in the morning attack include the chairman of the Bal’ad Court, a well-known activist in HirShabelle and the chairman of Marere village.

The official also said the assailant who had hauled the grenade into the restaurant had fled the scene, but added that security forces were hot on his heels.

The recent attack comes barely two days after Somalia held its protracted presidential election on Sunday amid threats from Al-Shabaab, which has tried all means at its disposal to topple the federal government.
