GOOBJOOG NEWS|ADDID ABABA: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat has expressed deep shock and concern at the violent and degrading treatment of African migrants attempting to cross an international border from Morocco into Spain.

A statement released by the African Union Commission said its chairperson was appalled by the violence meted out on the migrants, which resulted in the deaths of at least 23 people as they attempted mass crossing from Morocco into Spain’s Melilla enclave.

The AU Chair has therefore called for an immediate investigation into the matter and sought to remind all countries of their obligations under international law to treat all migrants with dignity and to prioritize their safety and human rights, while refraining from the use of excessive force.
