Storyline:National News

Local fighters in Bandiradley locality backed by police have removed illegal roadblocks set up by armed groups on the road linking Galkayo and Bandiiradlay towns.

The armed men had been claiming to be government forces and charging for access to the main road linking the towns.

The security operation was launched in response to protests by, public transportation drivers and residents against the roadblocks, which had caused prices to rise in Mogadishu markets.

Bandiiradley district commissioner, Abdirisack Ahmed Jam’a told Goobjoog News that His administration increased its efforts in recent days to eradicate all the illegal checkpoints within the district.

“they are set up illegally by armed Militias to extort Money and any other valuable item and also sometimes torture and rape civilians travelling on the road which joins the towns therefore we decided to flush them out” he said.
