Bihi ups statehood quest, lands in Djibouti after Kenya

GOOBJOOG NEWS|DJIBOUTI: Somaliland President Muse Bihi Wednesday arrived in Djibouti  barely a week after he concluded a two days visit in Kenya.

The visit to Djibouti adds to increasing diplomatic engagements by the breakaway region in its quest for statehood. Upon arrival from Nairobi, Bihi received delegations from South Africa and Malawi reinforcing the region’s push for international recognition.

The meeting also comes two days after the regional bloc IGAD concluded its summit in Djibouti.
A push by Somalia to seek a rebuke of Kenya by the eight member block failed as the matter did not appear in the final communique released Monday.
Relations between Somaliland and Somalia have deteriorated during the term of President Mohamed Farmaajo who has variously been accused of creating more tensions with the breakaway region.
