Bomb explodes near Mogadishu airport as presidential candidates are set to address parliament

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: A bomb has exploded at the KM4 checkpoint which leads to Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu as presidential candidates make way to the airport compound where they will address a joint session of the Federal Parliament.

Pictures from the scene showed damaged vehicles but it was not immediately clear if there were casualties. The first 20 presidential candidates will address the parliamentarians at the airforce hangar within the expansive airport compound to show cause for election.

The remaining 19 candidates will have their date with the lawmakers tomorrow ahead of the May 15 vote where the country is expected to get a new president.
