Bossaso Port to undergo major upgrading

Puntland’s main commercial town’s port is set to undergo a major upgrading as ministry of ports clears the harbour from watercrafts, Villa Puntland Agency learns.

Divers Marine Contracting L.L.C, United Arab Emirate based company won multimillion Dollars contract intended to upgrade the capacity of the Bossaso port as part of Puntland Government’s endeavours to improve economic infrastructures of the region.

Touring the port today, Abdullahi Jama Salah, Puntland ports minister said that a ship carrying equipments of the constructing company has docked at the port.

The projects is estimated to cost more than $200 Million, becoming the biggest project which is going to be implemented in Somalia since the collapse of Somalia’s powerful regime in early 90s.

Renovations include large oil storage with capacity of more than 250,000 barrels of oil, Three large warehouses, large mobile elevators and overall upgrading as well.

President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gas singed the project with the constructing company in march 2015 as part of his repeated forefront strategies to improve the economy of the region.

On the other hand, the first International airport is expected to successfully open in Bossaso with the capacity to cater direct International Flights from overseas.
